General Production Worker

The General Operator role is dynamic and varies with the seasons. During the spring and summer, you will join teams responsible for inspecting and maintaining seed crops or managing seed inventory at the plant. In the fall, you will engage in activities like harvesting and seed packaging. The winter months involve cleaning and packaging seed, supporting maintenance work, warehousing, and shipping to ensure timely delivery for the upcoming planting season.

Responsibilities:

September-October: Receive and process trucks hauling crop from the field for weighing and unloading. Complete a wide range of harvest activities, including husk and sort operations. Operate dryers to dry crop within prescribed safety, quality, and financial requirements. Shell and store crop from bins in the dryer facility. Supply the Conditioning department with a constant supply of seed and apply appropriate treatment to seed.

November-March: Label, tag, bag, and palletize seed. Enter inventory information into the computer and stage seed for shipment in the warehouse.

April-August: Retag in-house seed, re-bag backhaul (returned) seed, inspect pro boxes to ensure they are free of debris and clean, and wash pro boxes as necessary.

Essential Skills:

Knowledge of production agriculture and production plant operations.

Ability to safely perform duties in a timely fashion while maintaining seed quality.

Ability to work independently or with a team.

Ability to adjust to changing conditions and anticipate needs.

Ability to make independent decisions.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

Must have steel-toed shoes.

Must not be colorblind.

Ability to stand for long periods of time.

Ability to climb stairs when necessary.

Must be able to read English.

Smoking or use of tobacco products is strictly prohibited on-site.

Ability to lift, push, pull up to 60 pounds, work indoors and outdoors, and walk on uneven surfaces.

Must speak good English.

Forklift experience is nice to have.

Work Environment:

The work schedule includes an initial start time of 7:30 AM on the first day, with the rest of the first week from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. You will then be assigned to a team with 5 days of 8-hour shifts, either night or day depending on business needs. Regular shifts are 12 hours from 6:00 AM to 6:30 PM, working 42 hours a week, either Sunday-Tuesday with 6 hours on Wednesday morning or Thursday-Saturday with 6 hours Wednesday noon to 6:00 PM. You must be able to work any day or night of the week with some flexibility based on business needs. The environment is agricultural, likely to be dusty with corn and insecticide particles. Breaks are 15 minutes for every 4 hours worked.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $19.50 - $22.50/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
