Overview Job Title: Senior Graphic and Motion Designer. Organization: The Surplus Line Association of California (SLA). Location: San Ramon, CA. Position Type: Full-time, In-Office. Salary: $80,000 – $95,000 About Us: At the Surplus Line Association of California (SLA), we don’t sell insurance—we protect access to it. As the only organization overseeing California’s $20+ billion surplus lines insurance marketplace, we help support coverage availability for businesses—from film studios to freight haulers—when risks are too complex, too large or too unique for the standard market. Each year we review more than 1 million policy transactions, equip insurance brokers with compliance tools and continuing education courses, monitor the financial stability of global insurers and deliver data-driven insights that help the industry stay ahead of emerging risks. That impact—combined with our strong employee culture—has earned us recognition by Fortune as one of the Bay Area’s best places to work. Position Overview: The Surplus Line Association of California (SLA) is seeking a highly skilled Senior Graphic and Motion Designer to lead the development of creative assets that advance the SLA’s mission and strengthen engagement with our members, stakeholders, and the broader insurance community. This role combines exceptional design expertise with motion graphics, video, and digital storytelling to deliver impactful communications across print, digital, and broadcast platforms. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation of multimedia disciplines, a commitment to honing their craft, and the ability to turn ideas into beautifully crafted multimedia content. The ability to solve problems and work with minimal supervision is also valued. Responsibilities Conceptualize, design, and produce compelling visual content—static and motion—that reflects the SLA’s brand standards and communicates complex ideas with clarity and creativity. Develop original artwork for a wide range of applications, including animations, video graphics, iconography, infographics, illustrations, and digital presentations. Create collateral that supports member services, industry events, training programs, and thought leadership initiatives, including large-scale event graphics, and digital campaigns. Lead the creation of dynamic motion graphics and animations for SLA’s broadcast studio, livestream programming, and original video journalism projects. Partner with internal teams—including communications, membership, and other departments—to ensure design deliverables meet stakeholder needs, timelines, and project goals. Uphold and evolve the SLA’s brand identity, ensuring consistency across all platforms and channels, while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Present and articulate design concepts for internal review and executive approval, balancing creative vision with organizational strategy. Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, from concept through delivery, while maintaining accountability for quality, deadlines, and production standards. Troubleshoot and resolve production challenges, including file preparation, color correction, and formatting for digital and print media. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Multimedia Arts, Graphic Design, Film/Media Production, Communications, or related field. 5+ years of experience in multimedia production, graphic design, or a related creative role. Strong portfolio showcasing motion graphics, and digital/print design. Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly in Premiere Pro, After Effects, Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign. Knowledge of HTML/CSS and basic web development principles. Understanding typography, color theory, and composition principles. Familiarity with Unreal Engine or similar virtual production tools is a plus. Please submit both a resume and portfolio to be considered. An expansive benefits package with a variety of choices for medical, dental, and vision coverage tailored to your needs. Educational benefits, including tuition reimbursement and student loan relief programs to support lifelong learning. A generous wellness stipend to help you invest in your health and well-being. And because we love adding a little extra value: complimentary Costco memberships for you and your family. If you’re looking to grow your career in an environment where your voice is heard, your contributions are valued, and fun is part of the culture — come join us! We oversee a multibillion-dollar market that primarily serves businesses with hard-to-place risks. It’s niche, essential and surprisingly interesting.
